Professor Wayne McLaughlin is the Director of Caribbean Genetics (CARIGEN) and Caribbean Toxicology (CARITOX) at The UWI, Mona, both of which are commercial laboratories. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Biology from the University of Waterloo, Canada and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry from UWI, Mona. Prof. McLaughlin currently serves as the co-chair of the UWI Medicinal Cannabis Research Group, Board Director of the Scientific Research Council and the International Centre for Nuclear Sciences. He has developed a diverse and productive research programme in the areas of molecular plant genetics and molecular plant pathology. His current research involves the genetics and chemotyping of Jamaican cannabis plants and developing standards for medicinal cannabis.
